English Language & Linguistics Opportunity at HCMCUSSH, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Please note that in order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be a current University of Glasgow student enrolled in one of the three English Language and Linguistics PGT programmes (MSc Applied Linguistics; MSc English Language and Linguistics; MSc Speech, Language and Sociolinguistics).
The Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities (HCMCUSSH) has been developing links with the University of Glasgow, and as part of this collaboration we are proposing an internship which aims at understanding Vietnamese students’ engagement with the subject area of English Language and Linguistics. Students of English are often exposed to norms, theories and practices that originate in Western, English-speaking countries, often at the cost of local knowledge; the internship is focused on exploring these issues of different kinds of knowledge and understanding in different learning contexts.
The project will be developed collaboratively, in partnership with student interns as well as our academic contacts in Vietnam. The Interns will plan and execute a small-scale research project, in collaboration with supervisors in Glasgow and Ho Chi Minh City. Main duties will likely involve drafting of interview questions, carrying out of interviews, and presentation of initial findings to the students and staff. The work carried out during the internship could potentially contribute to a dissertation in a PGT programme within English Language & Linguistics.
Learning Goals and Objectives
This internship will provide experiences in research skills and working with partners. The Intern will have an opportunity to reflect on practices of teaching English in an EFL contexts, which might be useful for their own career.
Dates
The internship is expected to last 2 weeks with the anticipated start date of 4 May 2026.
Before submitting your application, please make sure to confirm that you can be absent from the UK for the entire duration of the mobility. This is particularly important to check if you are an international student whose visa may stipulate a residency requirement.
