Last week, DHVL Lead Professor David Lowe joined a select group of experts and companies on a high-level trade mission showcasing Scotland as a global hub for HealthTech innovation. The mission was led by Scottish Development International, The Scottish Government, and Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care Neil Gray.

At Japan Health Exhibition 2025 in Osaka, David spoke about Scotland’s “Goldilocks zone” for translational innovation - where NHS access, academic excellence, and agile industry partnerships intersect. At the Osaka World Expo HealthTech Scottish Showcase, he highlighted evidence generation for adoption and shared real-world examples of triple helix collaboration with international partners.

Professor Lowe also delivered a joint presentation with Ken Sutherland to senior leadership at Canon Medical Systems Corporation, where they highlighted ongoing collaborative work in developing foundational AI models for CT head interpretation and radiogenomics. This work forms a key part of the Living Laboratory programme.

In Tokyo, David joined the UK–Japan "Bridging Innovation" panel at the British Embassy, where he outlined the strategic importance of the Digital Health Validation Lab and Scotland’s evidence-driven model for global medtech adoption.

The mission concluded with a strong sense of collaboration, underscoring Scotland’s growing recognition as a launchpad for international HealthTech success. Professor Lowe expressed his gratitude to Scottish Development International, the British Embassy, and all Japanese stakeholders for enabling meaningful knowledge exchange and future-facing dialogue.
