Professor David Lowe, Lead of the Digital Health Validation Lab (DHVL) and Clinical Director of Innovation at the University of Glasgow, has been invited to join the newly established National Commission on the Regulation of AI in Healthcare.

Formed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and led by Professor Alastair Denniston and Professor Henrietta Hughes, the Commission brings together leading experts from healthcare, technology, regulation, and academia. Its goal is to develop a trusted, evidence-based framework for the safe and effective integration of artificial intelligence across the NHS.

As Clinical Director of Innovation at the University of Glasgow and Lead of DHVL, David brings extensive experience in demonstrating how robust evidence generation can underpin the safe, effective, and equitable introduction of AI into clinical practice.

DHVL is proud to see David recognised as a trusted leader in the responsible adoption of AI in healthcare — and to see his expertise contributing to this national effort to ensure that innovation is grounded in strong evidence and delivers real value for patients, clinicians, and the wider health system.

The establishment of this Commission reflects the UK’s commitment to global leadership in AI healthcare regulation, ensuring that any future framework is built on the principles of safety, effectiveness, and trust.
