The Embedding Employability Framework Pilot 2025/2026
As part of the University’s Learning & Teaching Strategy, we are piloting the Embedding Employability Framework during the 2025-26 academic year, with around 10–12 courses taking part across the University.
The pilot will allow us to test key aspects of the framework (the consultation process, resources at each stage, personalised support) and to continue gathering feedback from staff and students. The process is designed to be collaborative, with teaching colleagues and Careers & Employability Managers working together to build on existing good practice and make skills more visible to students.
On Wednesday 22 October, the Learning & Teaching Strategy: Introducing the Embedding Employability Framework webinar took place. 94 staff attended and the recording is available here. This has led to growing interest from across the University, with several staff members signing up to become early adopters ahead of a future rollout. To find out more, watch the recording of the Introducing the Embedding Employability Framework webinar, hosted by Daniel Mitchell, Academic Partnerships Manager in Careers, Employability & Opportunity.
Consultations commenced with six courses, as part of the Embedding Employability Framework pilot. These pilots mark an important step in testing how the Framework can support colleagues to make the skills and employability value of their courses more visible to students. You can hear initial reflections of what the pilot involves from Sarah Stevenson (Lecturer in Education in the School of Social and Environmental Sustainability) within the webinar recording.
Work continues to develop new guides and case studies, which will be available in early November. A small group of staff have also started to test the SEAL model of reflection (developed by the University of Queensland, more information here) with their students.
Finally, two new programmes currently progressing through programme approval are exploring how they can embed the Embedding Employability Framework from the outset.
Throughout the duration of the pilot, we will share monthly updates on this page to keep colleagues informed. These updates will highlight milestones, early feedback and insights gained from participating courses. We will use all feedback and evidence from the pilot to inform the final version of the Framework.
Although the pilot is running with a small number of courses, there are other ways to get involved. Colleagues can:
- Join the Employability Insights mailing list to stay up to date with our progress.
- Contact Daniel Mitchell (Academic Partnerships Manager) to share examples of good practice or ideas for how skills could be surfaced within the curriculum.
- Contact your College Careers & Employability Manager to express interest in being part of the future rollout of the Embedding Employability Framework.
