Manual handling training
Please also see our general advice page for information on manual handling, manual handling risk assessment and legal requirements.
Basic Awareness Training
Online training materials are available via Moodle for staff and students. This content is aimed at people who face only low day-to-day risk from manual handling tasks. This material provides a basic awareness of manual handling risk assessment and safe manual handling technique and practices.
Practical Training
For those who have more significant manual handling as part of their role, SEPS recommend attendance at practical manual handling training and can offer a half-day course entitled "Manual Handling for Higher Risk Environments".
This course is intended for those involved in higher risk manual handling work and, in particular, those required to undertake manual handling risk assessments. This course lasts for 3 hours and is designed to make delegates aware of the need to observe good practice when moving objects within the workplace and of how to conduct a manual handling risk assessment. Delegates who complete training will receive a certificate of attendance and participation will be recorded within the staff 'PeopleXD' training record.
A charge is made on the basis of recovery of costs for places on this course and varies according to the number of people being trained. Indicative cost is about £40 per person.
Booking Conditions and Cancellation Charges
Please note there may be a charge for cancellation within five working days of an event or for non-attendance. You may send a substitute delegate if someone is unable to attend but should advise us of this. If you need to cancel, or have any other questions about the course, contact safety@glasgow.ac.uk
