Hi, I’m Alfie, a Welfare Officer in the ResLife team. I’m originally from Nottingham, and have gradually made my way north, working and studying in York, Newcastle and Edinburgh. My background is in teaching and student welfare, and over the past few years I’ve worked to create welfare services and on-campus spaces where students can openly talk about their challenges and feel empowered to prioritize their mental health.

Ria's Profile

Role:

Welfare Officer

Bio:

Hi, I’m Ria, one of the Welfare Officers within the University’s Residence Life Team. Originally from the Highlands of Scotland I moved down to Glasgow for work where I enjoyed settling into the city’s diverse and faster paced way of life.

I come from a background in person-centred psychotherapy/counselling where meeting people with acceptance and warmth feels important to me. While also appreciating that life can sometimes feeling uncertain or challenging, I am passionate about having non pressured and compassionate conversations that are always met with curiosity and never judgement.

In my spare time I enjoy photography, gardening, foraging and cooking. Visiting new countries is also a passion of mine where checking out the local supermarket for new ingredients is always the first stop!

Maria's Profile

Role:

Events and Volunteer Officer

Bio:

Hello, I’m Maria, the Events & Volunteer Officer with the University of Glasgow's Residence Life Team. Before joining UofG, I studied at Strathclyde - so Glasgow has long been home for me. Before starting my post with the Reslife Team, I worked on outdoor and wellbeing events which gave me a real passion for helping people connect and feel part of a community. I grew up in a small, very rural town in Scotland, so I understand how big a transition moving away from home to university can be, and how important it is to have a welcoming space to settle into.

I like to spend my free time being creative with crafts, listening to music, and exploring the outdoors - interests that often spark ideas for the events I plan. Most importantly, I want to hear from you. What events would you like to see in the halls of residence? Your ideas will help shape a calendar of activities that truly reflect our community. Please don’t hesitate to share your suggestions, I’d love to make them happen!

Hi there, I’m Zach and I’m a final year PhD student at the University of Glasgow. I have been involved with ResLife within the university for a little over 2 years and have lived at a few different sites. I am currently the warden at Unite students’ Thurso Street residences. Originally from Preston in northwest England, I studied Natural Sciences at the University of Leeds before moving to Cambridge to work as a scientist at a small biotechnology company. I moved to Glasgow in 2022 to pursue a PhD in biomedical engineering.

I also enjoy photography, playing video games, and pub quizzes. Glasgow is a truly wonderful city and there is a lot to explore from here. If you see me around the halls feel free to say hello! I’m always looking to meet new people.

Having been a university student for 7+ years I understand the hardships which many students experience, and I’m here to assist you whilst you’re in Glasgow. If you have any questions, please reach out!

Abheer's Profile

Role:

Warden (Kelvin Court )

Bio:

Hello, I am Abheer, a Private Provider Warden at Kelvin Court within the University of Glasgow’s Residence Life Team. Originally from India, I moved to Glasgow for my undergraduate degree and have since fallen in love with this vibrant city and Scotland’s breathtaking Highlands.

My journey in Residence Life service began as a Resident Assistant at Murano for a year and a half, before being promoted to Senior Resident Assistant for another year. I have also worked with Information Services (Reach Out) at the University and was elected as a First Year Representative at the SRC during my first year, experiences that have deepened my understanding of the student journey and the importance of feeling supported and heard.

Having navigated the transition of moving to a new country for university myself, I understand the unique pressures and opportunities that come with student life, and I am here to support you through yours. In my free time, you will find me playing table tennis, critiquing cinema (ofc, I have a letterboxD haha)or obsessively reading newspapers to stay connected with the world around us.

Please do not hesitate to reach out. Whether you need support, want to chat (about cinema works too haha!!), or simply fancy a game of table tennis. I am here to help make your time in halls as positive, exciting, and enriching as possible.

Role:

Warden (Firhill Court)

Bio:

Hello, I’m Kate Wang, a Private Provider Warden at Firhill Court. I joined the team in September last year and am currently a second-year PhD student in Education.

Having moved from China to Glasgow for my doctoral studies, I know firsthand the challenges of adapting to a new environment — from settling into accommodation to building a sense of belonging in a new community. That is why I’m passionate about helping students feel welcomed, supported, and comfortable during their time here.

In my free time, I love reading novels, exploring different cafés around the city, and taking long walks to discover hidden corners of Glasgow. Dressing up and sharing little lifestyle inspirations are also things that bring me joy outside of my research.

Most importantly, I’d love to hear from you — whether it’s ideas for activities, questions about living in halls, or just a casual chat. Please feel free to reach out, and I’ll do my best to help make your time at Firhill feel like home!
