Cultural Industries was launched in 2025 as a new subject area bringing together a range of academic experts drawn from the University’s Centre for Cultural Policy Research (CCPR), Film and Television Studies and History of Art.

We are a dynamic and interdisciplinary unit focussed on teaching and researching a diverse range of theoretical, applied and policy-oriented topics in the cultural (or creative) industries, arts and media industries, broadly conceived.

We offer three Postgraduate taught (MSc) programmes in Creative Industries and Cultural Policy, Global Cultural Enterprise and Media Management, as well as the undergraduate MA in Creative Arts and Industries. We also offer opportunities for PhD study.

Our staff are highly renowned teachers and researchers with expertise in the following fields:

  • cultural identities and communications in the global context
  • cultural planning, cities, and local and regional development
  • cultural rights and regulation
  • equality, diversity and inclusion in culture and media
  • ecology, environment and sustainability in culture and media

  • media regulation and cultural policy in the UK and EU
  • the screen, music and gaming industries
  • the social and economic impacts of the arts

We welcome students at undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral level, as well as local, national and international research collaborations.
