FTIR

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)

FTIR provides the user with a method by which to rapidly identify molecules and materials by the unique vibrational fingerprint of their functional groups. The Specac attenuated total reflectance (ATR) accessories allow for fast sample characterisation with no preparation necessary, and can be used to analyse powders, liquids, and films. A variety of fluidic cells are also available for use upon request.

The Thermo Scientific Nicolet Apex FTIR comes with a DLaTGS detector for routine measurements and an iZ10 attachment with a liquid nitrogen-cooled MCT detector for fast, high sensitivity FTIR. It comes equipped with a variety of accessories for transmission and ATR data collection modes, as well as a dry purge gas system to eliminate atmospheric interference. The spectrometer has a measurement range of 7800 to 350 cm-1 and a resolution of up to 0.25 cm-1. The Omnic Paradigm software stores data in an easy-to-search database, and can check spectra against a library of known compounds to help in identification of samples.

The Jasco FT/IR 4100 has a measurement range of 7800 to 350 cm-1 and a maximum resolution of 0.7 cm-1. Peak selections and integrations and numerous other functions can be handled with the Jasco Spectrum Analysis software.
