Pymol software site license
The Colleges of MVLS, and Science and Engineering jointly purchased a (yearly) site license for the pymol molecular visualisation software. It is also available with some restrictions as an open-source package, but financially contributing to the project makes it easier to provide to everyone, in the fully-supported version.
These instructions apply to users in Chemistry.
It is already installed in the campus remote computer service, and the 'CSCE' teaching PCs. It can be installed on any extra research or teaching computers on request. The license comes with some conditions, with which you are required to comply. The full license terms are available, but the key additional points are:
- Pymol can be used for teaching and academic research, but not for commercially-sponsored research (with some caveats).
- Pymol can only be used at the University of Glasgow, by staff and students under our license, not shared with collaborators or used when working elsewhere.
- Outputs and data generated with Pymol cannot be used in a patent application. There are commercial licenses available.
The installers can be found at our sharepoint site, but you should also log a ticket to request the license file. HelpDesk and search for 'CoSE IT'
