Infrastructure and Environment

We are dedicated to developing innovative solutions for both the built and natural environments. We address key challenges in water and environmental engineering, transportation systems, and materials modelling to drive sustainable infrastructure and urban resilience.

The Infrastructure and Environment Rsearch division is organised into four primary Research Groups, each focusing on critical areas within infrastructure and environmental engineering:

  • Mechanics of Materials and Structures: Research in this group focuses on the properties and performance of materials, contributing to the development of durable, resilient infrastructure.
  • Water and Environment: This group explores sustainable water management and environmental engineering, tackling challenges related to climate change, water resources, and pollution control.
  • Smart Infrastructure: We focus on innovative, technology-driven solutions to improve infrastructure efficiency, including intelligent systems for monitoring, managing, and maintaining critical infrastructure.
  • Geotechnics: Research in this group addresses the behaviour of soils and rocks, providing the foundation for safe and sustainable foundations for construction projects.

Our impact and legacy

Our impact

Our research contributes to the creation of sustainable infrastructure that meets the challenges of urbanisation, climate change, and environmental protection. By advancing materials science, environmental engineering, and smart infrastructure systems, we provide practical solutions for both the built and natural environments.

Our legacy

Our work in water management, transportation, and materials engineering plays a key role in creating more resilient, efficient, and sustainable urban spaces, benefiting communities worldwide.

Industry and collaboration

We maintain strong collaborations with industry, government bodies, and academic partners, translating our research into impactful real-world solutions.

Our work in sustainable transportation, water systems, and materials science drives innovations that improve infrastructure performance, reduce environmental impact, and enhance urban resilience.

We work closely with both local and global stakeholders to ensure that our research supports practical applications in civil engineering and environmental management, fostering economic growth and sustainable development.
