Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) - Ernest Rutherford Fellowships

University of Glasgow School of Geographical and Earth Sciences (GES)

Ernest Rutherford Fellowships are intended for early career researchers who do not hold a tenured academic position at lecturer level. You must hold a PhD or have relevant experience at the time of applying for an Ernest Rutherford Fellowship. These fellowships can be up to five years duration. See STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship webpage for further details: https://www.ukri.org/opportunity/ernest-rutherford-fellowship-2025

Internal Application Deadline: 1st August 2025

This year GES will support one Ernest Rutherford fellowship application. We welcome applications from all STFC relevant research fields, but the proposed research should aim to enhance or complement our planetary science research group within the School – see https://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/ges/research/earthsystemsresearch/dynamicearthplanetaryevolution/ for details of our current research and relevant staff members.

An internal department pre-application should be made by submitting the following documents by 5pm 1st August to Leenah.Khan@glasgow.ac.uk:

· ERF Expression of Interest

· a 2-page CV

The successful pre-application candidate will be provided with support and advice to improve their applications before final submission to STFC before 1st October 2025.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in academic posts. We encourage researchers with diverse career paths to apply, for example seeking to resume their research career after a career break.
