Overview

These sessions take place on the third Friday of the month. Part of the Byres Community Hub public programme, they have been running since March 2023 in partnership with the Health and Social Care Alliance ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland) Team and social enterprise, Weekday WOW Factor.

Formerly known as ‘ALISS in Wowland community drop-ins', they included a ‘community spotlight’ from a variety of local organisations and were designed to help people find out about health and wellbeing activities in Glasgow and connect with others face to face. The community spotlights always prompted lots of discussion with members of the public attending and the issue that came up time and time again was the digital divide and the impact this is having on people’s mental health.

Future Plans

We are therefore going to focus these sessions on providing more support around digital access to ensure we do not leave people behind and as such propose renaming them ‘Digital Breakfasts’. We hope that through the sessions, people can feel more informed and empowered to access digital services and Byres Hub can build up a network for organisations we can signpost and refer people to depending on their digital needs and investigate if there is a need in the Hub itself, to provide support for people for their own devices.
