Biography
Laura graduated from the University of Glasgow with an M.A. (Hons) Sociology, and began working at the Social & Public Health Sciences Unit in 2001, within the Places & Health Programme, studying neighbourhood effects on health. In 2016, Laura obtained a MSc (with distinction) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Southampton University. Her dissertation explored associations between physical activity facilities within home and work neighbourhoods and physical activity behaviour.
Laura's research interests include utilising GIS data to explore socio-spatial distribution of neighbourhood built environment features, and associations with health/health inequalities. Recent projects include inequalities in SPACES children's geographical access to heritage, heritage exposure and mental health, and built environment change and mortality. Laura is involved in the Built Environment Context and Change Atlas (BECCA) project in collaboration with other MRC units.
