Professor Richard Janko (Gerald F. Else Distinguished University Professor of Classical Studies at the University of Michigan, USA)
New light on the ancient library from Herculaneum
The talk is aimed at a general audience and will be of particular interest to those working on damaged texts, manuscripts or similar. Prof. Janko has been at the forefront (for over twenty-five years) of reconstructing, deciphering and interpreting the texts on the carbonised papyri found at Herculaneum (left in that state because of the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79).
