Dr Micheal O'Flynn

Biography

Micheál is a Senior Lecturer in Criminal Law. He previously worked at the University of Southampton. His research interests are broadly in the fields of criminal law and evidence, with a particular focus on the law relating to the investigation and prosecution of cybercrime.

Micheál studied law at Trinity College Dublin (LLB), the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LLM), and Queen Mary, University of London (PhD). He is also an Irish qualified Barrister and has been called to the Bar of England and Wales (Inner Temple).

He has worked extensively on projects related to cybercrime and electronic evidence law for a range of national and international organisations such as the UNODC, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Law Commission and Nominet. He is a member of the editorial board of the Computer Law and Security Review.

Research interests

Micheál’s research is in the area of criminal law, evidence and procedure, but he is particularly interested in questions of jurisdiction generated by the Internet and information technology. Recent research projects have addressed various elements of substantive cybercrime law, investigative jurisdiction, and electronic evidence law.
