This course provides a practical approach to understanding and applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Regulatory Technology (RegTech) in financial compliance and risk management. It introduces the fundamentals of AI capabilities, the evolution of RegTech, and the regulatory and governance frameworks that shape compliance across banking, FinTechs, and the wider financial ecosystem.
Why this course
A key feature of this course is the integration of regulatory and governance requirements with applied solution design. Learners will connect conceptual and technical foundations of AI with governance mechanisms and emerging regulations while engaging in interactive activities, critical evaluation of AI/GenAI, and an integrative Capstone project focused on designing AI-enabled compliance solutions.
The course supports professional education by enabling participants to:
- Evaluate how AI capabilities can be used in compliance contexts.
- Identify risks and governance requirements.
- Design responsible and future-ready solutions for their organisations and careers.
The AI & RegTech in Financial Compliance course is one of two thematically linked UofG Online 10-credit courses alongside ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Leadership, as part of the Financial Regulation Innovation Lab (FRIL) an industry-led collaborative research and innovation programme at the University of Glagow focussed on leveraging emerging technologies to shape the future regulatory landscape in the UK and globally.
Course structure
This course is made up of 6 weeks of online sessions. Each session consists of a combination of recorded lectures or interviews, online activities, as well as case studies and recommended reading discussions.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain core AI and RegTech concepts relevant to financial compliance, connecting AI capabilities with regulatory frameworks and industry applications.
- Analyse compliance processes to identify areas where AI can add value, considering organisational and regulatory constraints.
- Evaluate risks, governance needs, and regulatory implications of AI adoption.
- Design a forward-looking professional roadmap for thriving in an AI-driven compliance environment, integrating regulatory trends and future skills requirements.

Entry requirements
It is suggested that learners on this course are educated to at least Undergraduate level and have an IELTS equivalent of 6.5. Learners will not be asked to prove their academic or professional history.
