The University first began transforming the former Western Infirmary site in 2017. Since then, the area has become an integral part of the University and the West End community, used daily by thousands of colleagues, students and members of the public. All this would not have been possible without the help of people like you.

Gifts in Wills played a vital role in the success of the last 10 years of campus development. Gifts from over 200 estates supported the campaign, amounting to over £30 million, a third of all philanthropic gifts received.

In this next phase, the Keystone Building will be one of the University's largest developments – second only to the Gilbert Scott Building – and will dramatically expand research and teaching capability.

With construction scheduled to begin in October 2024 and completion anticipated in 2028, the new building will accommodate approximately 3,600 students and host a range of general teaching and research spaces, technical facilities, dry and wet lab spaces, collaborative areas and a café. It will house high-spec computing labs, a maker’s workshop, and dedicated facilities for the James Watt School of Engineering. The new building will also be the University’s most sustainable yet, aiming to achieve ambitious energy use targets and ‘BREEAM Excellent’ certification.
