SCCA Health & Wellbeing Week

SCCA Health & Wellbeing Week Summary

From Pilates to popcorn, singing to shiatsu, the School of Culture & Creative Arts’ first Health & Wellbeing Week (31 March – 4 April 2025) became much more than just a timetable of activities. With over 110 attendees across 18 sessions, it was a joyful chance to slow down, connect, and recharge – full of small moments that quietly shifted the rhythm of the week and brought colleagues together in new ways.

Staff came open and ready to take part: some stretched into the week with Pilates or unwound through Tai Chi; others found their rhythm learning Dabke or joined in relaxed singing sessions. Yoga and chair massages offered calm and restoration, while the wellbeing walk (complete with Easter egg hunt and a few bunny impersonations) brought a playful energy outdoors. Coffee and cake catch-ups, book swapping, and casual conversations provided space for easy, non-work interactions.

Feedback was full of appreciation — and a sense of momentum. One colleague reflected, “The wellbeing week was lovely – I wish I could have participated in more events.” Others hoped this would become part of everyday working life: “Love the efforts to build in health and wellbeing into our working days.” What stood out for many was not just the range of activities, but the sense of connection they fostered: “Thank you for the wellbeing week. It was the most collegiate, enjoyable and productive week I have had at the University,” one participant shared. Another added, “The wellbeing activities helped me organise my working time. I also made lots of friends.” Many remarked simply on the uplifting mood the week created: “There was just a lovely feel in the office last week.”

Practitioners echoed the positive atmosphere. One said: “It was a pleasure; everyone was so kind and friendly, and everybody showed up for their appointment.” Another added: “I enjoyed delivering the sessions… your colleagues seemed to enjoy it too, so thank you for inviting me.”
The real success of the week wasn’t in the numbers—though they were impressive—but in the atmosphere it created: felt in the lingering chats after sessions, the thoughtful messages that followed, and the hopeful question that kept popping up: “Are we doing this again?”
We’re hugely grateful to everyone who made the week possible: to the facilitators who brought such energy and care, and to colleagues who embraced the week with open minds and full hearts. It was a true collective effort.

Health & Wellbeing Week reminded us that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes a stretch, a conversation or a shared laugh is enough to shift the mood. We’re excited to build on this, not just as a one-off event, but as something we can continue to weave into our working culture. Plans are already underway to introduce regular wellbeing activities, alongside making Health & Wellbeing Week a regular fixture in the SCCA calendar.
